The Hostel was built last century in the Neoclassical style and remodeled by its previous owners to become a hotel in 1947. It was a famous place in its heyday, and lots of celebrities stayed here, says Mauro Gutiérrez, an employee at the hotel for more than thirty years. Growing demand for accommodation resulted not only in the addition of more rooms on the top floor —their balconies practically making up the rooftop— but in the incorporation of the adjoining property by 1958. At the entrance, the hostel greets us with a marble stairway divided by a central beam covered in blue Talavera tiles and flanked by two side beams each with a carved stone lion on top.
